OSWEGO — Recording-breaking race, three-event individual champion, a co-championship by a team and much more came through performances by three area high school track teams.
Athletes from Marmaton Valley, Crest and Uniontown competed in the 2011 Three Rivers League track meet last Thursday. Results were corrected and released over the weekend from host Oswego High School.
Marmaton Valley High’s Zach Louk broke his own MVHS record in winning the league 1600-meter race. He captured the event title in 4 minutes, 31.85 seconds. His previous school mark was 4:38.6.
“Wow, what an accomplishment for Zach,” said Jamie Stodgell, MVHS head track coach. “I’m very proud of our five league champions.”
Louk also won the 800-meter run in 2:06.81. Marmaton Valley’s Chase Dudley took the triple jump championship with a leap of 39 feet, 4 inches. Zack English in the TRL 300-meter intermediate hurdle champion, winning in 44.268 seconds.
The Wildcat’s 4×400-meter relay team of Lucas Hamlin, Carlos Gonzales, English and Z. Louk is the TRL champion. The foursome won the race in 3:44.
Crest High’s Lancers ended up in a tie for the boys’ team championship. The Lancers and Pleasanton High’s Blu-Jay boys each scored 103 points to share the title.
Marmaton Valley’s boys finished fourth with 86 points. Uniontown was ninth with 19.5 points.
“We left the meet Thursday a half of point shy of first but after the results were corrected we were co-champions,” said Tisha Hug, Crest head coach.
“Our boys and girls all competed hard and we had a lot of things go our way.”
Dakota Ramsey was the only individual champion for the Crest boys, winning the javelin with a throw of 154’41⁄2”. He led a 1-2-5 run in the event for the Lancers.
Jordan Morton was second with a 153 feet. Jayden Bowen took fifth with a throw of 126 feet.
The Lancers captured two relay championships. They won the 4×800-meter relay in 9:27.37 and took the 4×100-meter relay gold in 47.936 seconds.
Members of the 4×800-meter relay team were Chris Brallier, Dustin Davis-Jones, David Womelsdorf and Trevor Holman. Running on the first-place 4×100 relay for Crest were Morton, Kyle Hammond, Cole Bowen and Ramsey.
Marmaton Valley’s 4×800-meter relay team of Garrett Booth, Josh Miller, Nick Trollope and Marcus Miller was third in 11:25. The Wildcats’ 4×100-meter relay team of Gonzales. David Harris, Dudley and English placed third in 48.32 seconds.
CREST HIGH’s Kurston Gilliland became a three-event Three Rivers League champion. Gilliland captured the gold medals in the discus, javelin and shot put. Three events dominated by Crest and Uniontown High’s girls.
Gilliland won the discus with throw of 97’81⁄4” and Uniontown’s Abby Dixon was second at 86’3”. Tessa Louk of Crest was third at 83’61⁄2” and teammate Amber Tinsley was fourth at 78’4”. Uniontown’s Amelia Brown placed sixth at 73’7”.
In the javelin, Gilliland’s top throw was 113’2” followed by teammate Shayla Stephens at 109’9”. Dixon of Uniontown placed third at 83’61⁄2” followed by Brown of Uniontown in fifth at 62’2”. Tinsley placed seventh at 55’10”.
Gilliland picked up her third gold medal in the shot put winning with a toss of 37’6”. The Lady Lancers went 1-2-3 in the event with Tessa Louk in second at 27’11” and Tinsley in third at 28’3”.
Uniontown’s Dixon finished fifth with a throw of 27’1”. Brown, also of Uniontown, was seventh at 24’5”.
Pleasanton won the girls’ team championship with 168.5 points. Crest finished third with 83 points just behind Northeast-Arma at 83.5. Uniontown scored 49 points for fifth and Marmaton Valley was seventh with 24 points.
Emily Aikins of Uniontown placed second in the long jump with a leap of 15’41⁄2”. Marmaton Valley’s Mercedes Trollope took third in the triple jump at 28’8” and was fifth in the long jump at 14’101⁄2”.
Crest’s Emily Frank cleared the high jump bar at 4’2” and placed third.
On the track for the girls, Aikins finished second in the 100-meter dash in 13.267 seconds with Uniontown teammate Haven Bradb in sixth at 14.74. Trollope was seventh in 14.79 seconds.
Marmaton Valley’s Ashtynn Louk earned the silver medal in the 3200-meter run in 13:51. Uniontown’s Rachel Henderson ran third in 15:16 and Crest’s Ashley Catt was fourth in 15:41.
In the 1600-meter run, A. Louk was third in 6:23 with Catt in fourth at 6:29.67. Henderson placed sixth in 6:45.
Frank placed fifth in the 400-meter run in 1:12.97 and Catt was fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:56.99 for Crest.
BACK TO THE BOYS, Trenton Miller of Uniontown captured the silver medal in the discus with a throw of 125’11”. Crest’s Ramsey was third at 122’11⁄2 with teammates Hammond in fifth, 121’ 2”, and J. Bowen in sixth, 112’61⁄2”.
Jayden Bowen took fourth in the shot put with a toss of 41’1” and Ramsey was fifth at 40’4”. Uniontown’s Miller finished in a tie for seventh at 39’8”.
Carter Wood of Uniontown took third in the high jump, clearing 5’4” as Marmaton Valley’s Lucas Hamlin was sixth at 5’2”.
Hammond took second in the long jump for Crest with a distance of 19’2”. In the triple jump, Marmaton Valley was 1-5-6. Gonzales was fifth at 35’51⁄2” and Hamlin was sixth at 36’11⁄2”.
Crest’s Dustin Davis-Jones placed fourth in the 1600-meter race in 5:15.74 and Marmaton Valley’s Marcus Miller was fifth in 5:24.15. In the 3200-meter run, Z. Louk was second in 10:35.23 with Davis-Jones in fourth at 11:14.53 and Uniontown’s Montana Beerbower in seventh at 12:30.
Marmaton Valley’s Harris took fourth in the 100-meter dash in 12.28 seconds. Gonzales was fifth in the 200-meter dash in 25.29 seconds.
Crest’s Womelsdorf was sixth in the 400-meter dash in 58.015 seconds. Crest’s Holman took sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:18 and Marmaton Valley’s M.Miller was seventh in 2:23.
Uniontown’s Skyler Riley took fifth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 50.81 seconds. The Crest 4×400-meter relay team of Womelsdorf, Holman, Brallier and Anthony Ellis was sixth in 4:07.
The three area schools head to regional track meets Friday.
