COFFEYVILLE — The Allen Community College softball team swept Coffeyville in a pair of games on the road last Thursday.
The Lady Red Devils (10-18-1; 2-7-1) got behind some impressive hitting performances from Ellie Hacker in game one and Brooklyn Goehring in the second game to take down the Red Ravens with final scores of 9-1 and 12-5.
Game one
Hacker led Allen to victory at the plate when she drove in a team-high four runs on two hits in a 9-1 run-rule victory in six innings.
Hacker delivered twice with runners on base, smacking a two-run double in the top of the second inning, a sac fly in the fourth and a home run in the sixth inning.
When Lacey Stamper walked in the top of the first inning, it made it a 1-0 Allen lead.
The Lady Red Devils then plated three more runs in the first inning.
Bailey Cravens, Madisyn Havenstein and Hacker each had two hits apiece for Allen while Havenstein also drove in another two runs. Allen put together 11 total hits and the Red Devils didn’t commit a single error in the field.
Skyler Jackson (4-4) started in the circle for Allen, allowing only one run on four hits in six innings. She struck out six and earned her fourth win of the season.
Game two
Allen snatched a seven-run victory mainly with the help of Goehring’s bat. She had five hits in five at bats and drove in a team-high four runs on RBI singles. Jaydee Pulliam and Cravens also helped out at the plate where each had three hits.
Brooklyn Ellis (3-4) got the start at pitcher for the Lady Red Devils and she worked 6.2 innings, allowing only two runs on six hits and she struck out two.
MaKayla McGinnis recorded the final out and gave up three runs in the pitcher’s circle for Allen in the seventh inning.
The Lady Red Devils went ahead 6-0 after the top of the fourth inning and took a 9-1 lead after the top of the fifth. Coffeyville scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 9-5 game before Allen scored three more runs in the seventh for the 12-5 win.
The four-run fourth inning was sparked by Allen’s Robin Todd and Goehring each hitting RBI singles, an Ashley Tribble bases loaded walk and a Pulliam RBI groundout.
