The Allen Red Devils remain winless in the Jayhawk Conference season with a pair of losses to the Hutchinson Purple Dragons 11-1 and 20-6 on the road Thursday.

Despite a calamitous start, the Red Devils hope to even the score — and their conference record — when they host Hutchinson for a Saturday doubleheader.

In the opener, only five Allen batters made it on base with sophomore catcher Meese Robberse and freshman designated hitter Grayson Roberson accounting for Allen’s hits while freshman third baseman Martin Malick and sophomore second baseman Logan Martin, combined for three walks.

On the mound, sophomore Jace Arnold took the loss after giving up five earned runs, including two homers, while striking out three batters in five innings of work.

Although the Red Devils had more success in the finale, so did Purple Dragons. Allen jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

Hutchinson responded by scoring 20 unanswered runs, including nine in the first and second inning, to take the sweep.

Freshman outfielder Jose Zorilla, freshman catcher Lane Vickers and freshman infielder Gavin Richardson each had an RBI.

Freshman pitcher Ryan Golden took the loss with one strikeout over one inning with four earned runs on three hits – including a home run.

First pitches for Saturday’s doubleheader are 1 and 3:30 p.m.
