Allen Community College’s pressure-packed week concluded with heartbreak.
Two days after a thrilling five-set victory over Coffeyville, the Red Devils hosted Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Friday.
After trailing, 2-1, Allen rallied to win the fourth set and set up a fifth-set tiebreaker.
And the fifth set went the distance with NEO emerging, 16-14.
The 3-2 loss drops Allen to 5-4 on the season.
The Red Devils are on the road Wednesday at Cowley and Saturday at Ottawa University’s junior varsity.
Things started off well enough Friday for Allen as the Red Devils prevailed, 25-20, in the first set.
But Northeastern prevented ACC from taking a commanding two-set lead by emerging on top, 28-26, in the second set, then rolled to a 25-19 third-set victory.
Allen responded with a flourish, outsourcing NEO, 25-17, to force the decisive fifth set.
Familiar faces led the way for Allen, with Madison Saia registering 19 kills, followed by Gabriela Dominguez with 16, Sadie Bakeberg with 11 and Bethany Williams with 10.
Adriana Compean registered 48 of Allen’s 61 set assists.
Compean and Alexis Hafenstine led with 27 and 23 digs, respectively. Aurivette Santos had 20. Karsyn Smith and Andrea Maldonado added 17 each.
