The Allen Community College volleyball team took on Johnson County Community College at home on Monday night but lost in three sets (25-11, 25-12, 25-22).
With the loss, Allen drops to 5-10 overall on the season and 1-3 in conference play.
After snapping a nine-game losing streak with a pair of victories against Dodge City and Ottawa JV, Allen looked to be on the rise again.
The Lady Red Devils began the year on a three-game winning streak.
But Allen could not maintain another three-game winning streak against Johnson on Monday night.
The defeat was coach Whitney Shaw’s 10th loss in 12 in matches.
Now, just Independence Community College and Labette Community College are the only two schools beneath Allen in its division of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
Each of those schools have yet to pick up a conference win.
Allen’s only conference victory came in the second game of the year against Labette.
The Lady Red Devils’ offense continues to struggle as they are ranked 15th out of 20 total teams in the KJCCC in hitting percentage.
Allen has recorded a .125 clip this season as a team.
However, the Lady Red Devils have had some bright spots on their squad.
Freshman Andi Dowell has stepped up for Allen by averaging 3.57 kills per set, which is good enough to tie for third in the conference behind Colby Community College’s Aleksandra Malek and Coffeyville Community College’s Frances Taylor.
Also, Allen’s Joely Roe has averaged 5.55 digs per set this season. Only four other players in the conference has averaged a higher amount per set.
Allen will face off against another conference opponent on Wednesday when the Lady Red Devils travel to Highland to take on Highland Community College.
