LEVELLAND, TEXAS — The Allen Community College track and field team completed another outstanding season under the direction of coach Vince DeGrado.
As reported in last Wednesday’s Iola Register, the men’s 4×800 relay team — comprised of Chris Martin, Aaron Miller, Vinny Butera and Carlos James — won the national championship, but the team had several other top-10 finishes as well.
Butera and James each ran in the 800 meters as well and James was able to take seventh, with Butera right on his heels in eighth. Miller also qualified in the event, but did not finish.
Pedro Montoya had a couple of top finishes with an eighth-place time in the 10,000 meters and ninth in the 5,000 meters. Teammate Ricardo Banuelos finished ninth in the 10,000 meters and 19th in the 5,000 meters.
Ceasar Stephen took 11th in the triple jump and Keshon McFadden was 19th in the 110-meter high hurdles and 24th in the 300-meter hurdles.
Kaitlyn Shoemaker led the Red Devil women with a pair of top-7 times.
She took the bronze medal in the 10,000 meters and then finished seventh in the 5,000 meters.
Shoemaker’s teammates Vicky Ibarra and Kristina Silvers also ran the 5,000 meters. Ibarra took 15th place and Silvers finished in 19th.
Andrika Dawn competed in two events in Levelland.
She was 19th in the high jump and also ran on the Red Devil 4×100 relay team,
The relay finished 19th. In addition to Dawn, the relay team consisted of Ivori Hood, Tieasha Collier and Alondriah Brown.
