ACC’s baseball team was swept by Pratt Community College in a doubleheader Wednesday. The Beavers won the first game 1-0 and the second game 8-6.

The first was a classic pitchers’ duel. Allen County’s Sawyer Rolland mowed down the first three innings before Josh Fluet stepped in

Neither side gave up much in the way of hits until the  top of the sixth.

Pratt had the bases loaded and one out after a sacrifice bunt. Fluet worked his way to the third out, striking out another Pratt hitter before Allen’s Jacob Shope came on to finish the inning.

Pratt broke through for the game’s only run in the top of the seventh when a single scored the go-ahead run. Pratt’s pitching held on in the bottom of the seventh to take game one.

Rolland gave up only two hits and a walk. Josh Prinner and Sal Jacobo had the only hits for Allen.

The second game was a stark contrast to the first. Pratt opened the scoring in the top of the third when Red Devil starter Patrick Babcock allowed three runs.

The first run came on a single to left field, scoring a runner from second for the Beavers. The very next Pratt batter broke the game open with a two-RBI triple to left field, putting the Beavers up 3-0.

Babcock worked his way out of the inning from there, but his day was done.

Pratt added another run in the top of the fifth when a runner scored on a passed ball, but the middle innings saw little in the way of offense.

Allen got on the board with a massive bottom of the sixth.

First, Shaun Gomez Jr. scored on a single. Levi Bennett, who scored Gomez, was driven home with a Ryan Lowery single to make it 4-2 in favor of Pratt. But the Red Devils weren’t done. A Prinner double later that inning scored two and tied the game 4-4. Allen went on to take a 6-4 lead when Tanner Strickland singled, scoring Prinner and Fraai Roangeraud.

That would be all the offense for the Red Devils.

Pratt tied the game in the top of the seventh on a double and took an 8-6 lead in the same inning after a two-RBI single.

The Red Devils got two singles in the bottom of the seventh but could not rally back.
