BALDWIN — The Allen Community College baseball team swept a doubleheader at Baker University on Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Devils (4-7) won the first game behind the bat of Carson Shepherd and a solid pitching performance from Cade Schupp for a 5-2 victory. Allen then scored a couple of late runs to grab a 6-3 win in the second game.

Game one

The Red Devils used a four-run seventh inning to take down the Wildcats after trailing by one run most of the game. The bats didn’t wake up until the sixth inning when Shepherd drove in a couple of runs to put Allen on top.

Colton Aryes and Rhett Jaggers each knocked in a run while Garrett Rusch had two hits.

Allen’s Schupp started on the mound and tossed six innings, allowing a couple of runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Reed Jensen came on in relief to earn the win. Jesen didn’t allow any hits in the one inning he worked.

Game two

Allen got ahead first in the second inning and scored in five straight innings through the sixth. The lone run in the fifth and a pair of runs in the sixth ultimately helped the Red Devils grab the three-run victory.

Blake Venneman, Anthony Nino, Rusch and Shepherd each drove in one run.

The Red Devils were led on the mound by Bobby Walker’s 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out seven.

Allen plays at Ottawa University next Wednesday at 1 and 4 p.m.
