Allen splits in Branson

The Allen Community College Red Devil Softball Team remained competitive with a win on the road during a tournament in Branson last Friday. They return to Iola Tuesday for a double-header against Southwestern Community College.

he Allen Red Devils split a pair of games against Northern Oklahoma College Enid and Des Moines Area Community College at the JUCO Jam in Branson last Friday. 

After opening the tournament with a 13-6 victory over NOCE, the Red Devils fell to Des Moines 12-0. 

They get back to work Tuesday, hosting Southwestern Community College for a double-header. 

More than a week removed from splitting a double-header against North Central Community College in their home opener, the Red Devils shook off a bit of rust by allowing four runs to NOCE before responding with a 10-run third inning to take the momentum and the game by the fifth inning. 

Allen had four hitters with two RBIs each. Sophomore shortstop Bailee Campbell stood out after going two of four. Freshman center fielder Ella McCammon also had a strong performance with three hits in three at-bats with a pair of runs. 

Sophomore pitcher Camrynn Yardley picked up the win with a pair of strikeouts in the complete-game effort while allowing seven hits, four earned runs and a walk. 

The Red Devils’ luck ran out against Des Moines, whose pitchers combined for a no-hitter while tallying 10 strikeouts. For Allen, freshman Kirstyn Busby took the loss and sophomore Abby Marsh came on in relief, tallying a pair of strikeouts in the effort.

Following the weekend action, the Red Devils have a 3-8 record.
