PARSONS — Allen Community College’s softball season came to an end Saturday, after the Red Devils closed with their most successful stretch of the 2021 campaign.

The Red Devils rattled off five straight home wins before dropping a pair Thursday at home to Kansas City Kansas.

That set the stage for ACC’s final road trip of the year, a pair of games at Labette Community College.

The host Cardinals were anything but hospitable, rolling to 8-1 and 11-3 victories.

Allen ends with an 11-32 record.

An all-too familiar tune played out in the opener, even after the Red Devils jumped in front 1-0 in the first. Aubrey Willis led off the game with a walk, moved to second on a ground ball, stole third and came home on Hailee Lundine’s ground ball to the pitcher.

Red Devil errors led to six unearned runs for Labette, which took the lead at 2-1 in the bottom of the second, and then broke open the game with two more in the third and four in the fourth.

Madelynn Collins took the loss. She gave up eight hits and two earned runs while striking out three. Andrea Wilson came on in relief, pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings with a strikeout.

Meanwhile, Red Devil batters mustered only four hits against Labette starter Jadeyn Wyrick. Wilson had a pair of singles, while Willis and Kobe McDonald each had a single.

THE CARDINALS wasted little time in taking control of the finale, even after spotting Allen a 2-0 lead in its half of the first.

Willis and Alayna Brown earned walks to lead off ACC’s first. They moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Wilson, and then Willis scored on Mikayla Long’s bunt. Brown followed her home as part of a double steal for a 2-0 lead.

But back-to-back home runs with one out in the first put Labette on top, 3-2, and the Cardinals never looked back. By the time the first inning was over, they had chased Allen starter Cynae Wiley, and had racked up eight hits and three walks.

Kinsey Stuewe doubled to lead off Allen’s second inning, and came around to score on Makayla Howard’s sac fly.

Wilson came on in relief for the Red Devils. After allowing three hits in the first, she allowed nary a baserunner over the final three innings, striking out five in the process.

Stuewe’s double was ACC’s only hit off Labette starter Kate Kotlarz.

Of note, Labette freshman Winter Snyder, a Humboldt native, had a run-scoring double in the contest. She also scored a run. She’s hitting a robust .373 with seven home runs for Labette this season.
