Allen Community College’s cross country team still has high hopes as the national meet approaches.
The Red Devils are the sixth-ranked NJCAA Division I team in the country, as per the final Hill-N-Dale rankings released Tuesday.
Despite the team’s lofty ranking, ACC head coach Vince DeGrado said more is attainable.
“I still feel like since our Oklahoma State meet, we haven’t quite taken that next step to be a podium team,” DeGrado said. “These last eight to 10 days, though, have been very encouraging because we’ve had workouts worthy of putting our names on that list. I still believe we’re a podium team.”
Meanwhile, the ACC women are tied for 24th, behind the running of Region VI and Jayhawk Conference individual champion Danae McGee.
“Danae has been looking strong,” DeGrado said. “Her goal is to finish in the top five.”
Central Arizona College remains the top team in the men’s final rankings. Iowa Central Community College is the top-ranked women’s team.
The squads will be in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Saturday for the NJCAA National Championships.
