Sharing the wealth has become an early theme for Allen Community College’s soccer team.
The Red Devils have scored 11 goals on the young 2013 soccer season, including a whopping five Wednesday afternoon.
A different player has scored all 11 goals.
“That’s nice to see,” Allen head coach Doug Desmarteau said, after the Red Devils’ 5-0 win over visiting Hesston.
The victory, in ACC’s home opener, improves Allen’s record to 2-1.
“This was a good win for us,” Desmarteau said. “We seemed a little frustrated in the first half, and we lost our composure for about five minutes.”
Even so, the Red Devils still controlled the tempo throughout against the visiting Larks, narrowly missing in multiple scoring opportunities over the first seven minutes.
Corey Hudson started the fun by punching in a header off a corner kick past the Hesston goalkeeper in the game’s 12th minute. Erick Rivera followed just over five minutes later by taking the ball in off his own dribble, then powering it to the corner and past the goalkeeper.
The 2-0 halftime lead quickly became 3-0 when Oscar Marrufo blasted in a penalty kick early in the second period.
Xzavier Torres and Dallas Fiszel added goals in the second half.
“Getting goals from this many players is big for us,” Desmarteau said. “When you get offense from that many players, it makes it much more difficult for opposing defenses. If all of your production comes from one or two players, it makes it easier for the defense to shut you down.”
Allen’s defense was stifling, rarely allowing Hesston possession past midfield. The Larks’ had one true scoring opportunity on a shot that narrowly missed the net in the game’s waning moments.
Chase Tonkin, Allen’s starting goalkeeper, left at intermission after colliding with a Hesston player early in the contest.
Dorian Fox also saw his play limited because of an apparent leg injury.
“They’ll be fine,” Desmarteau said. “We were able to rest them with our lead. We were able to try out some different options today and get other guys some playing time.”
Fox, Marrufo and Preston Derige had assists for the Red Devils.
Allen travels to Kansas City, Kan., on Saturday.
