HUTCHINSON The Allen Red Devil men and women wrapped up their season on Wednesday when both teams fell in the opening round of the Region VI tournament to Hutchinson.
The men lost 98-88 and the women fell 89-40. The men end their season at 16-15 overall while the Lady Devils end their season at 3-28.
The Lady Devils came into Wednesdays game with only five players. Despite being shorthanded, they gave the second-seeded Lady Dragons a fight for at least the first quarter, where they trailed by eight.
Then things really turned south. Hutchinson got the lead to 22 at the half and added another 14 points after the third quarter. They added 13 more in the fourth quarter to complete the blowout.
Sophomore Jakiria Wilson led the Lady Devils with 14 points followed by 11 for freshman Paige Jensen.
THE ACC men had a much better go at things.
Led by a stellar final performance by sophomore Darius Love, the Red Devils rebounded from a less-than-stellar first half to challenge the Blue Dragons for the lead in the final minutes.
Allen started off strong, taking an early 11-10 lead before a 17-6 Hutchinson run gave the Blue Dragons a double-digit lead for the rest of the first half.
In the second half, Hutch had stretched things to 21 with less than 10 minutes to play but a barrage of threes in the final minutes got Allen back in the game. With a minute left, Love cut the lead to five with a three but that would be as close as they got.
Love was on fire, going 12 for 17 overall including four of six from three to score a game-high 30 points. He also had seven rebounds and six assists.
Sophomores Perry Carroll and Jamaal Clifton each had 12 and freshman Malik Hardmon had 10 points.
With the losses, both teams end their season. The Lady Devils will have to replace four sophomores off of this years team while the men lose six sophomores.
