Allen guts out one win over Coffeyville in weekend slate

A dominant complete game pitching performance from John James in the third game of the series provided the Allen baseball team its lone win of the weekend. The winning home was driven home on a Carson Shepherd RBI sacrifice fly for the 1-0 win.

The Allen Community College baseball team secured a lone win against Coffeyville this weekend. 

The Red Devils (23-24; 12-16) were led by John James on the mound who tossed a shutout in the opening game on Saturday while dropping the other three matchups.

Game one 

Coffeyville snatched the early 2-0 lead in the first inning and would never surrender their lead in a 9-2 game one loss for Allen. 

Brett Buchanan started on the mound for the Red Devils, surrendering nine runs on eight hits through five frames. 

Reed Jensen worked the final inning on the mound for Allen, walking one. 

The Red Ravens were led at the plate by Quentin Platt and Ryan Ready who each drove in a team-high two runs. Jack Bell also had a team-high three hits and four other Coffeyville hitters drove in runs. 

Allen scored one run in the third and sixth innings each. Rhett Jaggers knocked home a run while Gage Stark had a team-high three hits. Patrick Mulligan and Jaggers each had two hits. 

Game two 

Allen’s second game started in a better direction after going up by four runs in the first inning. Coffeyville battled back with three runs in the third and sixth innings for a comeback 9-8 victory. 

Allen scored again with one run in the third and three in the fifth for the 8-1 advantage.

Jaggers led Allen at the plate, driving in three runs and collecting one hit. Garrett Rusch and Braden Hendrix also each drove in one run. Carson Shepherd and Rush knocked triples while Jaggers went for a double. 

Noe Stroer started on the hill for the Red Devils and allowed only one run on five hits through five innings of work. He also struck out seven Red Ravens. Jack Neill and Brayden Thompson combined to give up six runs through 2.2 innings, part of the late downfall. 

Jack Bland threw the final inning on the mound for Allen, allowing two runs on four hits. 

Eight of Coffeyville’s nine runs were delivered in the final 3.2 innings. Mason Holton drove in a team-high three runs while Carson Schrack and Platt each plated two runs. Ready had a team-high three hits while five other Red Ravens collected two hits apiece.
