The Allen Community College softball team began its season Saturday by taking down Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in a pair of home games.
The Lady Red Devils (2-0) scored in every inning of their 12-8 onslaught in the first game before six Lady Devils drove in runs in a 13-9 victory in game two.
Game one
Allen jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the second inning after Madisyn Havenstein knocked in a run in the first. Brooklyn Goehring and Robin Todd each knocked in runs in the bottom of the second inning.
After NEO plated a run in the top of the third, Havenstein drove in another run before the Devils took a 7-1 advantage heading to the fourth. The Norsemen cut into the Allen lead when they brought home four runs in the top of the fourth to make it a 7-5 ballgame.
That was the closest Northeastern Oklahoma A&M came. Allen plated two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings and another run in the sixth. The Norsemen scored three runs in the top of the sixth to make it an 11-8 game.
The Lady Red Devils then brought one more run across in the bottom of the sixth on a Skyler Jackson RBI before Jackson closed it out on the mound with a scoreless top of the seventh.
Jackson pitched the entire game, allowing eight runs on six hits and striking out seven. She walked three NEO batters and also served up a grand slam to Payton Compton.
Goehring led Allen at the plate with three hits. Goehring, Todd and Havenstein each drove in two runs and Goehrig scored a team-high three runs.
Game two
Havenstein led the Lady Red Devils at the plate by driving in six runs on only two hits.
NEO took a slim 2-1 lead in the top of the second but it was countered with Havenstein driving home two runs on a single before Hayley Gerberding smacked a three-run homer to put Allen ahead 6-2 in the bottom of the second.
The offensive firepower didn’t stop there for Allen as they plated five more runs in the bottom of the third including a Havenstein grand slam and a Bailey Cravens’ RBI fielder’s choice.
The Lady Devils held the Norsemen to a scoreless fourth inning before Goehring knocked an RBI triple to go ahead 12-3 heading to the fifth inning. NEO then made one final push by scoring four runs in the top of the fifth but Allen added on their final run in the bottom half.
Jackson drove in the final run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single to give Allen a 13-7 lead. NEO added two more runs in the top of the seventh before Allen pitcher Morgan Collins retired the side to give the Lady Red Devils a 13-9 victory.
