PARSONS — Allen Community College’s bats fell silent Friday, and resulted in a pair of losses.
The Red Devils managed just two runs on six hits in the opener, a 6-2 loss to Labette Community College.
Labette pitcher Chelsea LePee then shut out the Red Devils on three hits in the nightcap, a 5-0 Cardinal victory.
The losses keep Allen winless on the season. The Red Devils return to action at 2 p.m. Monday at home against North Central Missouri. Another doubleheader at home Tuesday follows against Highland.
Allen actually broke into the scoring column first in the opener. Kayla Bourgeois opened the top of the fifth with a double and scored on a Labette fielding error.
The lead didn’t last long.
Labette scored three times in the bottom of the inning to take the lead, keyed by a leadoff triple and an ACC error.
Two more Allen errors led to Labette’s three-run sixth to put the game out of reach.
Allen had one final rally. Bourgeois walked to lead off the top of the seventh. Marissa Luna and Stormie Bush followed with singles to drive her in, but Labette hurler Taylor Kemp retired the last two Red Devil batters with the bases loaded.
Erika King went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the way. Bourgeois had a double. Shelby Maycumber, Luna and Bush had singles.
Emily England took the loss, surrendering eight hits and three runs in 4 1/3 innings with two walks. Luna allowed one hit and one earned run over 1 2/3 innings of relief. She walked one.
Labette broke open a scoreless duel in the nightcap with Kambri Hill’s leadoff home run in the bottom of the fourth.
The rest of Labette’s runs came on two-out rallies. The Cardinals tacked on another run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth, all with two outs.
Luna was the tough-luck loser. She surrendered five hits in six innings. Only one of her runs was earned. She walked one and struck out three.
Cassidy Reynolds, Bailey Burnett and King provided ACC’s hits, all singles.
