Allen basketball teams struggle on the road

Allen Community College’s men’s basketball team lost both of its games in Moberly, Mo. this weekend.
The Red Devils lost to Moberly Community College on Friday night 87-65. Moberly jumped to a 17-point lead heading into halftime that Allen was never able to overcome. Statistics were not available for the game.
Allen lost on Saturday 87-71 to Missouri State University-West Plains. The Red Devils trailed at the half 31-20, but kept it close in the second half 56-51 in favor of West Plains. Allen was outrebounded 40 to 32 and also had 20 turnovers compared to West Plains’ 14. On defense, Allen had three steals to West Plains’ 12 steals.
Allen’s Josh Sweet led all scorers with 26 points, making 4-7 from beyond the 3-point line. Courtney Stockard added 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Darren Sprill and Daniel Southworth each had nine points, while Tevin Bartley had four points. ACC had two points from its bench, coming from John Cornett.
The Grizzly’s scoring was much more spread out, with their top scorer having 14 points. Their bench made up almost half their scoring with 42 points.
Allen (0-4) plays at 8 p.m. Tuesday at home against Pratt.

ALLEN’S women’s basketball team also lost both of its games this weekend at the Northern Oklahoma Enid Classic.
The Red Devils lost 81-47 Friday to host NOC-Enid. In the first half, Allen trailed 36-21. The Jets also outscored the Red Devils in the second half 45-26.
Allen’s top scorers both came from the bench. Daria Evans had 14 points and grabbed two rebounds. Haley Wilson scored 12 points, had one steal, dished out one assist and had four rebounds. Rachael Bruce and Kailani Jones led the starters with three points each, while Bruce led the team with seven rebounds.
Allen turned the ball over 22 times and shot 15-51 for 29.4 percent.
The Red Devils dropped their Saturday game to NOC-Enid’s JV squad in a much closer game. Allen lost by one basket with a final score of 65-63. Statistics weren’t made available for this game.
ACC (0-5) hosts Pratt at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
