Allen Community College’s men’s basketball three-game winning streak came to an end against Butler Tuesday night. THE RED DEVIL women also lost to Butler on Tuesday night. Allen fell 105-50, giving up the most points in a game this season.
The Red Devils lost 89-72. The first half doomed ACC when Butler built a 20-point cushion with the score 45-25. Allen outscored Butler 47-44 in the second half, but it was too little, too late.
Allen’s top scorer, Jermaine Long, came off the bench to score 21 points. He also had three steals and two assists, while shooting 3-6 from the 3-point arc. Courtney Stockard led the starters with 15 points and team with six rebounds.
Josh Sweet scored 11 points and had four rebounds. Darnell Jones-Bowie had the odd statistic of the night scoring seven points, all from the free throw line.
Overall, The Red Devils had only 16 turnovers compared to Butler’s 24 — Allen had 19 steals as a team. But, ACC gave up 39 rebounds, with 17 of them on the offensive end. Allen had only 22 rebounds. Butler also shot 50.7 percent on the night, taking and making more than 10 extra shots than Allen. The Red Devils shot 40 percent.
Allen (3-5) travels to Fort Scott this Friday to play Wentworth Military. This will be fourth road game in a row, with one more to play on Saturday. ACC will play at home on Tuesday against Tabor.
The women were outscored by double digits in each half. Butler had a 48-23 lead at halftime and then beat Allen 57-27 in the second.
The Red Devil’s Erika Essman led the team with 17 points and in 3-pointers, making 5 of 10. Daria Evans scored 15 points and led the team with four rebounds. Kai Jones, Josie Reilly, Ashley Washington and Essman each had two assists.
Allen shot 15-44 for 34.1 percent compared to Butler, which shot 40-73 for 54.8 percent. Butler was able to get so many shots off because they outrebounded the Red Devils 49 to 14. The team also turned the ball over only nine times to Allen’s 18.
Butler scored 42 points in the paint and 30 points off of turnovers. Allen scored 10 points in the paint and nine points off of turnovers.
The Red Devils (1-8) host Crowder on Thursday at 2 p.m.
