The Allen Community College baseball team hosted Northeast for a pair of doubleheaders this past weekend.

The Red Devils (2-6) lost three out of four games but the game they won was an impressive 5-0 victory in which freshman left-handed pitcher John James tossed a complete-game four-hitter shutout.

Game one

Freshman right-hander Cale Clark got the start on the mound and allowed four runs on five hits through 5.2 innings of work in a 5-0 loss to the Hawks.

Northeast got on the board in the top of the second when Harrison Taubert took home on a steal.

Leadoff hitter Taylor Gill then smacked a ground ball single into center field to score Cade Grevenged in the top of the third inning. Matt Kitzman then sent a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home Gill for a 3-0 advantage.

Northeast struck again in the top of the sixth when Kaden Young shot a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Darius Hagen. Grevengoed blasted a solo homer to left field in the seventh to mark a 5-0 final score.

Rhett Jaggers hit ACC’s lone hit off of Northeast’s Nate Zyzda, who tossed six innings of scoreless ball with one hit, two walks and seven strikeouts.

Game two

James took the mound for the second time this season for the Red Devils. James threw seven innings of shutout ball with only four hits allowed.

Allen got on the board early and often when Cale Clark hit an RBI double to left field to plate Garrett Rusch. ACC’s Landon McGinness then sent an RBI lineout to left to plate Clark.

Patrick Mulligan rocketed a solo home run to left field for a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Colton Aryes knocked an RBI single to right field which drove home Brandon Harper for an early 4-0 edge.

When Mulligan struck out in the third inning on a dropped third strike, Gabe Glenn advanced home on the throw to mark the final score of 5-0.

Northeast’s Vilims tossed three innings while allowing five runs and seven hits. He also struck out three Red Devils.
