All-America honors go to ACCC players – ACCC softball, baseball players earn conference, Region VI honors

All the postseason honors are in. Allen County Community College softball and baseball players’ performances were recognized by Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference coaches, the NJCAA and a national softball coaches association.
Sophomore Lenzie Boring is an NJCAA All-American. The Humboldt native was named to the NJCAA Division II Softball All-America First Team.
Boring was Allen County’s ace pitcher for two years. She went 25-10 in 2011 with a 1.18 Earned Run Average, which was seventh best in NJCAA Division II. She finished her two years at ACCC with 536 strikeouts.
Boring’s 301 strikeouts this season were the fourth most in the nation. Boring signed to play softball at Evangel University in Springfield, Mo., next year.
Boring, sophomore third baseman Jenna Sigg and sophomore center fielder Callie Umholtz were named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger Division II Second Team All-America team. The honors are sponsored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Sigg is a two-time second team NFCA All-American.
Sigg led the Red Devils in most offensive categories with a batting average of .483 and an on-base percentage of 557. She scored 66 runs, hit nine home runs and eight triples among her 86 hits.
Sigg was 37 of 39 on stolen base attempts, which was 13th best in the NJCAA Division II. She finished 21st on the hitting list and 11th on the on-base percentage list. Sigg had only four errors playing third base.
Umholtz was the team’s second leading hitter at .389 and led the team with 52 RBIs. Sigg had 41 RBIs. Umholtz hit 14 doubles and three home runs in her 74 hits and scored 49 runs. She was 14 of 16 on stolen base attempts and had five errors in the outfield.
 The Red Devil women were 41-19 overall and went 16-10 in Jayhawk Eastern Division play. Umholtz and Boring, both of Humboldt, were named to the Jayhawk East first team softball team. Sigg earned second team conference honors.
Sigg, Boring and Umholtz were named to the NJCAA All-Region VI Division II District E first team. Sophomore shortstop Kelci Owens, Humboldt, and freshman pitcher Alex Hill, Iola, earned Region VI District E second team honors.
Owens batted .278 with 34 runs scored and 26 RBIs. She was 24 of 25 on stolen base attempts. She had seven errors in the field.
Hill was 16-9 pitching for ACCC with an ERA of 2.91. She had 105 strikeouts and gave up 205 hits. She had 24 hits with a batting average of .296.
Three ACCC baseball players received 2011 Kansas Jayhawk Eastern Division honors. The Red Devils were 21-29 overall and 13-23 in Jayhawk East play.
Nick Fountain, sophomore from Pleasant Hill, Mo., earned first-team All-Jayhawk East honors and first-team NJCAA All-Region VI honors as an outfielder.
Fountain paced the Red Devils with a team-leading .420 batting average. He led the team in home runs with 16. He had 73 hits and 61 RBIs. His fielding percentage was .868 in right field plus he was 5-2 pitching for ACCC.
Sophomore center fielder Bryce Williams earned Jayhawk East second-team honors. Williams, Manhattan, hit .368 with 53 hits, led the team with 16 doubles. Williams signed to play at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Ga., next year.
Receiving Jayhawk East honorable mention was second baseman Riley Price. Price, who is from Berryton, hit .401 this season with 57 hits and 31 RBIs. He had 13 errors and was involved in nine double plays. Price signed to play at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Ark., next year.
