Action ramps up for Humboldt Middle School

FREDONIA — Humboldt Middle School’s girls A team could not hang on to their five-point lead in the fourth quarter, before host Fredonia ended their contest with a 10-point run.
Fredonia won, 28-23.
“Hopefully we can learn from that and have more success late in the game next time we get in that situation,” Lady Cub head coach Scott Brady said.
Rylan Wilhite led Humboldt with eight points and eight rebounds. Maggie Johnson and Kassie Angleton added four points each. Aricah McCall scored three, while Katie Malone and Sydney Houk both scored two.
The Lady Cub B team secured its second one-point win in a row, downing Fredonia, 19-18.
Angleton scored six points. Britnee Works added five, Sydney Barker four and Denise Johnson and Kaylie Johnson with two apiece.

IN BOYS action, the Cub seventh-graders improved to 5-1 with a 36-23 win.
Bo Bigelow’s 10 points were followed by Teryn Johnson’s nine points and three rebounds. Tucker Hurst chipped in with eight points and six boards. Ryan Sellman scored seven. Dylan Doolittle had two points. Logan Gray pulled down nine rebounds.
The Humboldt eighth-graders could not overcome their slow start in a 34-23 loss.
“We struggled in the first half to get our shots to fall,” head coach Jeremy Weilert said. “We started to hit a few in the second half, but by that point we were too far behind.”
Zach Korte had six points and four rebounds for the Cubs. Ty Griffiths also scored six. Wyatt Seufert and Evan Gean notched five and four points, respectively. Brent Yost scored two.
A fifth quarter followed in which C team players took the floor. David Watts scored four and Chase Jaro two in the extended session.
