ACCC’s Williams signs to play baseball at Georgia College

For two years, Bryce Williams patrolled center field for Allen County Community College’s  Red Devils. Williams plans to do the same for the next two years at Georgia College and State University.
The ACCC sophomore from Manhattan recently signed a national letter of intent to play baseball for Georgia College next year. Georgia College and State University is at Milledgeville, Ga.
“They have a very respectable baseball program at Georgia College and it is in the top 10 in the nation in NCAA Division II,” Williams said. “I really like Georgia College and believe I can go and contribute to their program.”
Georgia College’s Bobcats are 35-17 as of right now and looking to make the NCAA Division II playoffs. They have won NCAA Division II region titles in 2006 and 2007 and were the 2010 Peach Belt Conference champions.
Williams, who hit .259 as a freshman, improved his batting average during the Red Devils’ 2011 season. He hit .368 plus doubled his hit production with 53 this season. He scored 38 runs.
Williams led Allen County in doubles with 16 plus had five tripled and four home runs. He drew eight walks and led the team in hit-by-pitch with 10. Williams was 8 of 10 on stolen base attempts.
Defensively, Williams had a .955 fielding average in center field. He had 77 putouts and only four errors in 89 chances. He earned Jayhawk Eastern Division second-team honors this spring.
“Playing here at Allen prepared me for the next level on and off the field. Academics is high priority at Georgia College as it was here for our players,” Williams said. “I developed as a player and a student at Allen which I believe will help me there.”
Williams plans to major in sports management and pursue a minor degree in industrial and sports psychology. He is the son of Ann and Steve Williams of Manhattan.
