WINFIELD — With a game plan in place, Allen County Community College’s women executed it for 40 minutes and came away with an 82-72 victory on the road Monday.
The Red Devils defeated their host, the Southwestern College junior varsity to go to 4-7 on the season.
“We played together as a team and stuck with our game plan throughout the entire 40 minutes. Southwestern hit some extremely difficult shots with our hands in their faces and we just refused to let that rattle us,” said Mark James, ACCC head coach.
Miracle Davis recorded a triple-double for the Red Devils. Davis fired in 12 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and handed out 10 assists. Hannah Blackwell scored 10 points and collected 10 rebounds.
Allen County had four players score in double figures. Rackell Goldson hit three three-pointers on her way to a team-high 22 points. She also led the team with four steals. Ebonie Jones chipped in 10 points.
“The high scoring was no indication of how well both teams played defensively. It was just better offense beating good defense,” James said.
Southwestern’s junior varsity led 37-34 at halftime. Allen County pumped in 48 points in the second half while holding Southwestern to 35 points.
The Red Devils shot 44 percent, 28 of 63, from the field and cashed in on 18 of 30 free throw attempts.
The Red Devils collected 41 rebounds and limited Southwestern to just eight offensive rebounds in its 35 total. Allen County had 12 turnovers and 13 steals.
Others scoring for Allen County were: Kayla Morton with seven points followed by Maggie Stithem and Brittney Redmond with six points each, Johnnea Saulsberry with four, Endesha Flanigan with three and Jamie Peel with two points.
Allen County concludes its non-conference schedule Saturday at McPherson College.
