KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Momentum slipped away in the fog Monday night.
Allen County Community College’s Red Devil women and men had the “Mo” from Saturday night’s home victories. But somewhere during the trek to Kansas City, Kan., Community College, the Red Devil teams lost it.
Kansas City’s Blue Devil women defeated Allen County 76-62. The loss dropped the Red Devil women to 1-4 in Jayhawk Eastern Division play and 7-10 overall.
Allen County’s men trailed by seven at halftime, 41-34, and couldn’t get a good push in the second half. Kansas City outscored the Red Devil men 55-36 en route to a 96-70 win.
The Red Devil men dropped to 3-2 in conference action and 8-8 overall. KCK improved to 2-3 and 14-3.
Allen County’s teams turn around to play at home against Neosho County Community College’s teams from Chanute on Wednesday. The NCCC men come in at 5-0 in the conference and 13-4 overall while the Panther women are 2-3 and 7-10.
Tipoff for the women’s game is 6 p.m. The men follow at 8.
Kansas City’s Derick Denny went 9 of 15 from three-point range scoring 29 points. The Blue Devils shot 55 percent, 36 of 65, from the field.
Allen County’s men were 26 of 61, 43 percent, from the field. Andra Bailey stepped out from playing inside to hit four threes for the Red Devils in his 26-point performance.
Allen County got 13 points from Erik Law and 12 from Aaron Jackson. Keevis Tukes added 10 points.
Dennis Rumph and Chris Lee, both injured in Saturday’s game, did play for ACCC. Lee saw limited time.
Rumph controlled eight rebounds and Bailey had seven. Bailey also had three assists. Jackson had two steals.
Scott Fruehling added 16 points for Kansas City. Dennis Tinnon had 15 points and 13 rebounds.
There were no statistics available on the women’s game as of press time.
