ACCC softball team rings up four wins

Allen County Community College’s softball team takes a 6-0 record into today’s Jayhawk Eastern Division doubleheader against NJCAA Division II seventh-ranked Johnson County Community College. The Red Devils host the Cavaliers.
The Red Devils are coming off a four-win weekend in the Evangel University tournament in  Springfield, Mo. Allen County defeated Independence Community College 8-0 and North Arkansas College 13-2 on Friday.  On Saturday, ACCC beat Southwestern Illinois College 12-4 and Pratt Community College 3-2.
Lenzie Boring pitched a three-hitter for ACCC against Independence. She walked two batters and struck out seven.
Allen County had 12 hits as it scored four runs in the second inning, three more in the fourth and one in the sixth. The Red Devils won 8-0 in six innings.
Kelci Owens was 3-for-3 with three singles while Jenna Sigg, Callie Umholtz and Kylie Taylor each had two singles. Hitting a single each were Boring, Denise Swanson and Brianne Smedley.
Against North Arkansas College, the Red Devils used a 10-run third inning to control the contest. They won it 13-2 in five innings.
Alex Hill was the winning pitcher, going four innings and allowing one run on two hits and striking six out. Ashley Ribelin pitched one innings, gave up one run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
Sigg was 3-for-3 with two singles and a triple. Umholtz delivered three singles. Delivering two base hits each were Boring, Taylor, Hill and Tesla Allison. Erin Schwant and Owens each had a single.
Allen County was down 2-0 after the top of the first inning. Then it was the Red Devils’ turn to bat against Southwestern Illinois Saturday.
The Red Devils had five hits and took advantage of two SWI errors to score eight runs. They went on to win 12-4 in five innings.
Kayla Johnston was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single. Boring and Umholtz each hit a single and a triple. Swanson and Kelsey Walters had two singles apiece. Sigg singled.
Boring was the winning pitcher. She gave up six hits, walked three and struck out five.
The final game of the weekend was a tough one.  Allen County and Pratt went five scoreless innings then each scored a run in the sixth.
Allen County’s one run came on a solo home run by Sigg with one gone. Pratt produced the tying run on two singles and an ACCC error.
Hill and Pratt’s Bre Beckerman were in a pitching duel. Hill and the Red Devils prevailed 3-2 in eight innings.
After a scoreless seventh sent the game into extra innings, the Red Devils took advantage of the tie-breaker rule. Allison was awarded second to lead off the eighth and Ribelin went into run for her.
With one gone, Owens drove in the go-ahead run with a base hit. Owens ended up on third base on an error as Sigg reached first. Boring’s fly-out brought in an insurance run.
Then it was Pratt’s at-bat. Beckerman was at second via tie-breaker rule. With two down, Pratt got back-to-back singles and plated the run.
Hill struck out Ami Osner to end the threat, the inning and the game. Hill allowed 10 hits but recorded eight strikeouts. Beckerman gave up four hits and four walks and had three strikeouts for Pratt.
Sigg had a single plus the home run. Hill and Owens each had a single.
