ACCC softball team goes 2-2 at home

Allen County Community College’s Red Devil softball team had a good day and a bad day on their home diamond over the weekend.

Allen County went 2-2 at home over the weekend. The Red Devils (10-3) open Jayhawk Eastern Division play today at home against Neosho County Community College. First pitch is at 2 o’clock.

The Red Devils won a Saturday’s doubleheader over K-State Club team. Both games ended in five innings  on run-rule victories.

After taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Red Devils produced six runs in the fifth to win 8-0. Keelyn Bonar was the winning pitcher limiting K-State Club to two hits while striking out nine batters.

Allen County had 10 hits in the game led by Ashley Randall and Maecy Charleston with a single and a double apiece. Alex Hill hit two singles.

Eric Schwant hit a grand slam in the fifth inning. Bonar, Ashley Ribelin and Kaylee Lucas had a single apiece.

Bonar delivered a two-run home run in the first inning of the second game as ACCC won 14-5. The big inning was the second when the Red Devils scored eight times.

Audra Nelson was the winning pitcher for ACCC. She gave up six hits, walked two and struck out seven.

Bonar and Charleston each had a single and a home run. Ribelin connected for a single, a double and a triple. Alexus Douglas had two doubles.

Schwant hit a single and a double and Taylor Easum doubled. Hitting a single each were Randall and Melissa Davidson.

On Sunday, Marshalltown Community College of Iowa came to town. Marshalltown beat ACCC 5-0 in the opener.

Schwant’s two-out single in the sixth broke up a no-hit bid. Charleston had a single in the seventh for the only hits of the game for the Red Devils.

Bonar took the pitching loss. She was charged with 14 hits and struck out four.

The second game featured six home runs and Allen County lost 9-7.

The Red Devils led 1-0 in the first inning but not again. Marshalltown tied the game in the second, went ahead 4-1 in the top of the third then Allen County tied it up at 4-4 with three runs in its half of the inning.
