Perfect softball weather was here for Allen County Community College’s home opener Tuesday. The Red Devils went 1-1 against Ottawa University’s junior varsity.

Freshman pitcher Keelyn Bonar threw four scoreless innings after Ottawa took a 3-2 lead in the third. Bonar allowed 13 hits by the Lady Braves but struck out 12 as ACCC won 8-3. She walked one batter.

The Red Devils manufactured the tying run in the fourth inning. They used five hits and two Ottawa errors to score four runs in the fifth inning. They added a run in the sixth.

Bonar delivered a double and a single to help herself. Erin Schwant hit two singles.

Ashley Ribelin tripled and Maecy Charleston doubled. Hitting a single each were Kaitlin Norris, Alex Hill, Lauren Poertner and Paige Rothwell.

In the second game, it was scoreless after three innings. Ottawa pushed across two runs in the top of the fourth and ACCC came back with a four-run half-inning.

Ottawa was able to score three runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh to build a 9-5 lead. That’s where the game ended.

Sophomore pitcher Alex Hill took the loss, pitching seven innings and allowing eight runs on nine hits. She had eight strikeouts. Bonar gave up one run in relief.

Hill was 4-for-4 at the plate. Bonar, Alexus Douglas and Kayla Van Vliet each had two singles.
