A long road trip — six games in three days — appeared to take its toll on Allen County Community College’s softball team Tuesday.
The Red Devils were a bit sluggish in their fourth doubleheader in four days. Labette Community College’s Cardinals swept past the Red Devils 4-3 and 13-1 at ACCC softball field Tuesday.
With the losses, the Red Devils are 21-7 in Jayhawk Eastern Division play and 36-20 overall. They are 23-7 in NJCAA Region VI, Division II action.
Allen County wraps up the regular season at home Saturday against Hesston.
The Red Devils came up with three runs in the third of the first game. It tied the game up.
Jenna Sigg had a two-run triple and scored on a double by Autumn Lamle.
Labette got the go-ahead run on a solo home run by Ashley Pritchard in the seventh. Chelsey Rottinghaus had hit a two-run home run in the first inning.
Allen County had the tying run on in its half of the seventh, but could not get a hit to bring Amy Carr around.
Lamle also had a single. Carr had two singles. Shawna Blakesley, Kelsey Walters and Chalice Schmollinger each had a single.
Brianne Campbell was the losing pitcher, giving up 11 hits, walking one and striking out four.
Allen County scored a run in the first inning of the second game. With one gone, Megan Dillow was hit by a pitch. She stole second then Sigg was hit by a pitch and Callie Umholtz drew a walk. Dillow scored on a wild pitch.
That was it for the Red Devils. Sigg had a single for the only hit of the five-inning game.
Labette was up 7-1 when it scored six runs in the fifth inning.
Amy McAfee was the losing pitcher. She gave up 15 hits, walked four and struck out two.
