OVERLAND PARK — Allen Community College’s Red Devils learned that two solo home runs don’t make up for eight defensive errors on Saturday.
After losing the first game of a Jayhawk Eastern Division doubleheader 6-0 to host Johnson County Community College, the Red Devils lost 12-4 in six innings. They committed eight errors in that game for a total of 12 miscues on the day.
The Red Devils had tied the game with single runs in the second and third innings. The Cavaliers used three hits and two ACC errors to score four runs in the fourth.
Erin Schwant, who had two doubles in the game, hit a solo home run to lead off ACC’s fifth. Maecy Charleston hammered out a solo home run to open the sixth for Allen.
Ashley Ribelin doubled in the game. Kaylee Lucas and Taylor Easum each singled.
Alex Hill took the pitching loss, going four innings and giving up eight runs on seven hits and one walk. She struck out two. Audra Nelson pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on two hits and two walks with one strikeout.
In the first game, Keelyn Bonar pitched for Allen. She gave up eight hits and one walk and struck out four.
Bonar hit two singles and Lucas doubled in the loss.
Allen is 8-16 in conference play and 25-24 overall.
