INDEPENDENCE — Rob Carlson and Tim Stinnett combined in championship form to win the Dave Dennis Best Ball Golf Tournament Monday.
The tournament hosted by Independence Community College was played on the Independence Country Club golf course.
The two Allen County Community College sophomore golfers shot an 11-under par 96 to win. The tournament was a two-person format playing 27 holes of golf.
“This was a great start to our season. Rob had nine birdies on the day and Tim had five birdies,” said Mike Hayes, ACCC golf coach.
“Rob shot five under par on his own ball on the third nine holes, shooting a 31. His individual score over the 27 holes was five under par.”
Carlson and Stinnett won by two strokes. Cole Murrin and Jerry Chase of Kansas City, Kan., had a 98 and Independence’s Cole Phillips and Hunter Earnhart shot a 99 for third.
Allen County’s Tyler Roth and Drew Stevenson shot a 127.
The Red Devils travel to Winfield next for the first of three Jayhawk Conference designated tournaments. They play Sept. 12-13 on Quail Ridge Golf Course.
