Playing at home and in the sunshine, finally, Allen County Community College’s softball team won six games this weekend.
The Red Devils swept Brown Mackie on Friday, winning 1-0 and 6-5. Allen County scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the second game.
In the first game, Kylie Taylor and Callie Um-holtz each had a double while Kelsey Walters, Kelci Owens and Denise Swanson each had a single.
Lenzie Boring hit a three-run home run for ACCC in the second game. Walters had a two-run home run. Owens had three singles and Umholtz had two base hits. Javyn Carl had a single.
On Saturday, the Red Devils shutout Cloud County 7-0 behind the pitching of Lenzie Boring, two hits, three walks and 12 strikeouts.
Walters had three singles and Kayla Johnston hit two singles. Jenna Sigg tripled. Boring, Umholtz, Taylor, Tesla Allison and Owens each had a single.
Allen County defeated Cloud County 3-1, scoring three runs in the fourth inning trailing 1-0. Alex Hill was the winning pitcher, giving up six hits and striking out three.
Hill doubled in the game. Sigg, Ashley Ribelin and Boring had a single apiece.
Cloud County had only lost four games in Jayhawk Eastern Division play until Saturday. Cloud County (10-6, 14-8) is fifth in the conference.
Boring came back on Sunday to throw a one-hitter. She struck out 17 batters in a 1-0 win over Dodge City. She walked one batter.
Johnston was hit by a pitch and Owens singled in the fifth. Boring drove home the winning run on a fielder’s choice.
Boring, Taylor and Owens each had a single.
Allen County continued its winning ways in the second game, taking an 8-0 decision in five innings. Hill was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits, walking one and striking out four.
Walters had a three-run home run in the second inning and hit a double. Umholtz and Hill each had two singles. Hitting a single each were Boring, Sigg and Owens.
Allen County improved to 6-6 in Jayhawk East play and 22-12 overall. It hosts Labette Tuesday.
