SALINA — Freshman Clinton Moore broke into the top 20 for the second time in as many Jayhawk Conference designated golf tournaments.
The conference two-day event concluded Monday at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
“We played our best golf of the year. We were more consistent, both as a team and individually,” said Mike Hayes, ACCC golf coach.
“It was the first time our freshmen played 36 holes in one day and I thought they responded well.”
Moore had rounds of 75 and 74 to tie for 18th with a 149 total. Allen County Community College’s Red Devils finished tied for seventh with Independence Community College. Both teams had a 615.
Hutchinson Community College won the team tournament title with a 556 total. The Blue Dragons took the top three individual medals in the event, led by Mike Muller with a 136.
Allen County’s other golfers ended up in a cluster. Chad Schmidt shot a 155 (76-79) followed by Josh Stanley at 157 (76-81), Casey Bettis at 158 (82-76) and Jacob Weber at 163 (86-77).
“Our conference is full of strong players this year. Hutchinson’s winning team score was under par,” Hayes said.
The Jayhawk Conference Designated No. 3 tournament is this coming Sunday and Monday at Atwood Country Club in Colby.
