Allen County Community College’s Kristiana Popejoy eyes a pitch that was called a ball during a recent home game. The Red Devil hitters are learning to be patient at the plate. They defeated Harper College twice at home Wednesday.

How does a team score eight runs on no hits? It takes advantage of four base-on-balls and six defensive errors.
That’s how Allen County Community College’s Red Devils did it Wednesday. The Red Devils scored eight runs in the first inning against visiting Harper College of Palatine, Ill.
Allen County had already defeated the Lady Hawks 10-0 in five innings. The teams were in the second game when the Red Devils needed just four hits and five innings to beat the Lady Hawks 10-2.
The doubleheader sweep puts the Red Devils at 15-11 overall. They are slated to play at Brown Mackie Friday afternoon then at Cloud County Saturday.
After staking an 8-0 lead in the first inning of the second contest, the Red Devils bobbled the softball themselves a bit in the second inning. Harper pushed across two runs assisted by three ACCC errors.
The Red Devils got the two runs back in their half of the second.
Jenna Sigg drew a walk, stole second and ended up at third on the throw. Kristina Popejoy was hit by a pitch after one was out. Then came three straight singles from Denise Swanson, Callie Umholtz and Chalice Schmollinger to drive in the runs.
Brianne Campbell got the pitching win as she threw four innings, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk. She struck out three. Amy McAfee worked one scoreless inning.
The other base hit in the game was by Kelci Owens.
In the first game, Allen County had more bang-for-their-buck offensively. They had 10 runs on 10 hits.
Lenzie Boring threw a one-hit shutout. She struck out 10 batters.
Allen County scored two runs each in the first two innings and had a run in the third. The Red Devils scored five runs in the fourth for the 10-0 win.
In that fourth inning, Jenna Sigg, who was 3-for-3, hit a three-run home run. Autumn Lamle followed with a solo home run. Sigg also had a single and a double  and Lamle hit a double.
Hitting a single each were Boring, Brandie Hutcheson, Kelsey Walters, Kylie Taylor and Owens.
