J’Vente Deveaux closed out the 2011 indoor track season in great fashion Saturday. The Allen County Community College sophomore claimed third place in the men’s triple jump at the 2011 NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Deveaux, who is from Nassau, Bahamas, earned NJCAA All-America honors with his third-place finish. He had a leap of 51 feet, 9 1/4 inches. Deveaux holds the ACCC indoor triple jump record at 53’1 1/2”.
Kyran Stewart claimed fourth place at nationals in the men’s 55-meter dash in 6.40 seconds. Stewart, a sophomore from Camilla, Ga., ran the race in 6.35 seconds in the preliminaries.
Freshman DeMario Johnson placed sixth in the men’s 400-meter dash in 48.53 seconds. Johnson is from Junction City.
Johnson combined with sophomores Bryant Terry, John Thurston and Trent Huling for sixth in the men’s 4×400-meter relay race. The ACCC men ran the race in 3 minutes, 16.01 seconds.
Terry, who is from Hamlet, N.C., finished 11th in the 600-meter run preliminaries. Huling, who is from Elberton, Ga., was 11th in the 400-meter dash preliminaries and freshman Brandon Miller of Nassau, Bahamas, was 20th.
The top nine in the 200-meter dash preliminaries advanced to the finals. Allen County’s trio of Huling, Johnson and Stewart finished 11th, 12th and 18th, respectively, in the preliminaries.
For the ACCC women, sophomore Rackell Goldson finished 17th in the long jump with a leap of 16’1 1/2”. Goldson is from Orlando, Fla.,
Nakita Casey did not make the finals of the women’s 55-meter dash. She ran the race in 7.58 seconds in the preliminaries.
The Red Devil track athletes have a couple weeks off from competition as they prepare for the 2011 outdoor track season.
