CHANUTE — The Lady Red Devils were three points away from at least salvaging a small portion of their weekend contests.
Down 15-14 in the fifth set against Neosho County Community College, Allen Community College’s volleyball team had a chance to come back and record its only victory of the Neosho Tournament in Chanute.
But like Allen’s three previous games in the tournament, the Lady Red Devils fell short and dropped the set 16-14 and the game (25-16, 24-26, 25-14, 22-25, 16-14).
Coach Whitney Shaw’s squad entered this weekend’s slate of matchups on a two-game losing skid, hoping to turn its luck around in Chanute.
But the Lady Red Devils only added to their misfortune by extending their losing streak to six and falling to 5-15 on the year.
To make matters worse for Allen, three of its four losses over the weekend were to Kansas Jayhawk Conference Community College foes. Shaw’s team is now 1-7 in league play.
Allen will attempt to pick up its first conference victory since Aug. 26 when it hosts Cowley Community College at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
