EL DORADO Allen Community College track and field competed at the Region VI/Jayhawk Conference meet over the weekend at Butler Community College in El Dorado.
The Red Devil men were ranked 11th in the region going into the meet and finished 8th and the women were ranked 12th in the region and finished 11th. In the conference, the men were ranked third overall and finished third and the women went in ranked fifth and finished fifth.
Four events earned All-Region VI status (a top-three finish in the Region at the meet) led by a second-place finish by RaShion Walker who took second in the 400 with a time of 47.49 which was .04 seconds away from breaking the school record.
Walkers time earned him an All-Conference honor after placing first in the Jayhawk East.
Josh Doria took third in the Region in the 10K with a time of 31:54.70. His time was best in the conference.
The mens 4×800 relay team of Joshua Doria, Yoel Yoel, Xari Barros and Joshua Clethen took second in the Region and first in the conference with a time of 7:39.84. The time was the fourth-fastest in program history.
The 4×400 team took third in the region and second in the conference with a time of 3:14.21.
Several other Red Devils took the top spot in the conference without placing top three in the region.
Yoel won the 800 with a time of 1:52.31 and Adrian Pishny took first in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:56.76). Henos Andebrhan won the 1500 with a time of 4:04.77. Doria also took the conference crown in the 5K.
Other all-conference honorees include Jason Axon who took second in the 400 (48.28), Mitchell Dervin who took second in the 1500 (4:07.52), Garrett Gantt who placed second in the 3000-meter steeplechase (15:58.67), Josh Clethen who took third in the 5K (15:58.67) and the 10K (33:13.95), the womens 4×800 team (10:16.10) who took second and the mens 4×100 team (41.81) that took third.
The team has a week to prepare before they head to Hobbs, New Mexico to compete in the NJCAA Outdoor Championships at New Mexico Community College starting a week from Thursday.
