NEVADA, Mo. — Allen Community College’s softball team swept their doubleheaders against Cottey College on Saturday.
Allen won the first game 11-1 by scoring at least one run in each of the five innings. Ashley Womack had a big game at the plate.
The Red Devils took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. The team scored its first run on a wild pitch and Womack hit an RBI-single later in the inning. In the third inning, Womack hit a solo home run to give ACC a 5-1 lead. In the next inning, Womack hit a three-run shot to give the Red Devils an 8-1 lead. A three run fifth inning, allowed the Red Devils to finish off Cottey via the run limit.
Womack went 3-for-3 at the plate, with five RBIs and two home runs. Emmy McManigal had a great game as well, going 4-4 with four RBIs. Shelby Maycumber didn’t have a hit, but did account for an RBI. Krystal Waggoner had one hit and an RBI.
Baileigh Rager pitched all five innings, giving up only one run on a solo-homer. She also had seven strikeouts, one walk and allowed only three hits.
A three-run first inning helped propel the Red Devils to a 7-2 win in game two.
Cassidy Reynolds started the game with a walk. Justine Dougan followed with a sacrifice, moving Reynolds to second base. After two wild pitches during MyKenna Sharp-Hadl’s at-bat, Reynolds came in to score. Sharp-Hadl walked and Womack followed with a double, putting runners on second and third. Maycumber sacrificed in Sharp-Hadl, but made it to first base after an error which also allowed Womack to score.
ACC extended its lead to 5-0 in the third inning thanks to a Maycumber RBI-single and Womack stealing home. In the fifth inning, Sharp-Hadl tripled and Womack followed with another triple to knock in Sharp-Hadl. May-cumber sacrificed in Womack on the next play and Allen led 7-0 and held on to get the 7-2 win.
Maycumber accounted for four RBIs on two hits. Womack went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Sharp-Hadl went 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs scored.
Erin Pearly earned the win after pitching five innings, giving up two runs on three hits. She also walked six and struck out three. McManigal finished the game with two-shutout innings, giving up three hits for the save.
ACC (10-13) travels to Chanute on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Neosho.
