The Allen Community College women’s soccer team continued its undefeated start to the year when it defeated No. 14 St. Charles Community College 1-0 in overtime in Cottleville, Mo., on Friday.
In a golden goal scenario, Hailey Melin sent the Red Devils home as winners by scoring off a Shekinah Flores assist. It was Melin’s first goal of the year, but it was already Flores’ third assist in just two games this season.
Coach Jeremy McGinnis’ team gained momentum in the second half by out shooting St. Charles nine to five. The win boosted Allen to a quick 2-0 record on the year.
However, the women finally lost when they faced No. 13 Lewis & Clark on Sunday. The Red Devils were defeated 4-1. Northern Oklahoma College is up next for Allen.
The men were not as fortunate this past weekend after dropping their second straight match to begin the season. Coach Doug Desmarteau’s squad, which also played St. Charles CC but in St. Louis, fell 2-0.
