HESSTON — The Red Devils are still perfect this year.
The Allen Community College men’s basketball team improved to 4-0 after taking down Hesston College, 93-89, on Tuesday in Hesston.
But after defeating their previous three opponents by an average of 24 points, the Red Devils quickly found themselves in an uncharacteristic hole to start Tuesday’s contest.
The Larks led by as much as 15 points in the first half after shooting lights out from the floor (19-of-28).
However, Allen’s defense made some key adjustments during the break and disrupted the once clicking offense of Hesston.
The Larks finished the game with 20 turnovers compared to the Red Devils’ nine.
On offense for Allen, Jah-Kobe Womack was once again the go-to scorer. For the second straight game, the freshman led the team in scoring with 29 points on 10-of-14 shooting.
Womack was also able to make it to the free-throw line 10 times Tuesday, sinking seven of them. Allen as a whole converted six straight free throws within the game’s final minute to secure the comeback victory on the road.
The 4-0 start is a stark contrast to last year’s 0-4 start that put the Red Devils in an early hole that proved difficult to overcome.
Allen will look to stay undefeated this weekend when it travels to Sedallia, Mo., for a tournament.
