Allen Community College track and cross country coach Vince DeGrado is hosting a cross country camp Wednesday through Aug. 2.
The camp’s check-in will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Runners between grades 7-12, along with coaches, are welcome to attend. The same information DeGrado uses during the camp is what he uses at ACC’s program. Campers come from across the Midwest are expected to attend. DeGrado would like to see local athletes as well.
“Something that gets lost is the camp isn’t just for cross country runners,” DeGrado said. “I’ve had sprinters, middle distance runners and even athletes from other sports previously attend.”
DeGrado goes over nutrition and wellness for the athlete, injury prevention, energy systems and training. There will be other activities planned as well.
The camp costs $100 for athletes not staying in the dorms or $125 for athletes staying on campus. DeGrado personally stays in the dorms for the three nights to ensure security. Campers will receive meals, a Dri-Fit running shirt, water bottle, copy of all camp material and a gait analysis disk. All proceeds for the camp will go back into the cross country and track programs at Allen.
