Allen Community College’s softball and baseball teams had Sunday games rained out. The games are rescheduled for this afternoon and there’s playoff implications riding on the results.

The Red Devil softball team is in the NJCAA Division II, Region VI playoffs. It earned a split of two games at Independence Community College Saturday, forcing a deciding third game in the playoff series.

Today’s contest is winner take all, as the winner advances into the District E tournament this coming weekend.

After losing 2-1 in nine innings to the Lady Pirates in Saturday’s opener, the Red Devils stayed alive with an 8-2 victory. There was no scoring in the first game until the ninth inning.

Details on all three games will be in Tuesday’s Register.

Trying to finish up Jayhawk Eastern Division play, the Red Devils lost twice at Neosho County Community College in Chanute Saturday. They lost 6-0 in the opener then dropped a 3-2 decision in nine innings.

The Red Devils and Panthers were to play a doubleheader today to close out the conference season. Allen is in eighth-place right now and in the NJCAA Region VI playoffs but could solidify its spot with wins today.

Details of the four-game series will be in Tuesday’s Register.
