The Allen Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams kicked off their season Saturday against Ottawa JV at home.
The Red Devils came away with an 88-62 victory while the Lady Red Devils earned an 82-51 win.
Jermaine Long led the men’s team with 14 points on 5-of-12 shooting, including 2-of-5 from behind the three-point arc.
The sophomore guard also led the squad with 24 minutes played. Each member of the Red Devils saw at least some action on the court to win in a balanced effort.
Allen shot 48 percent as a team and dominated the glass, out-rebounding Ottawa JV by 19 boards.
On the women’s side, freshman McKena Arlt led the Lady Red Devils with 17 points. Fellow freshman DaMonica Franklin added 14 points of her own.
Allen distributed the basketball efficiently by recording 18 team assists and hustled to record six steals and 40 rebounds.
The men will play Tuesday at Labette while the women will hit the road today to play at Cottey College at 6 p.m.
