Not much has been going right for Allen Community College’s Red Devils on the baseball diamond. After a four-game home series last weekend, the Red Devils are in a seven-game losing skid.

Johnson County Community College’s Cavaliers rolled up four Jayhawk Eastern Division wins over the Red Devils here Saturday and Sunday.  Johnson County posted  wins of 7-2 and 8-4 on Saturday at Red Devil Field then won 9-8 and 14-5 Sunday.

Allen County is 5-7 in Jayhawk East play now and 11-12 overall.

Today’s non-conference games with Brown Mackie of Salina have been canceled because of wet field conditions.

Allen is schedule to play a four-game series at Cowley County Community College this weekend at Arkansas City.

Last Saturday, Zak Mickens and the Red Devils were up 2-1 after three innings. Mickens ran into trouble against the Cavaliers in the fourth inning. Johnson County scored six runs in that frame and chased Mickens from the mound.

Jake Johnson, Mathew Dickerson and Lucas Westervelt took turns on the mound for ACC. Johnson County didn’t score again but won 7-2.

Caleb Wilburn hit a solo home run for ACC in the third inning to put the Red Devils up 2-1. Wilburn  also had a single in the game.

Travis Stafford connected for two singles and Kyle Fultz doubled. Hitting a single each were Tim Lewis, Kyle Johnston, Eric Seymour and Garrett Rasch.

Allen plated three runs in the first inning of the second game and led 3-1 until the fourth inning. Johnson scored a run in the fourth and fifth frames to tie the game.

Each team had a run in the seventh to force the game into extra innings. The Cavaliers only needed one more at bat.

They scored four runs in the eighth and held the Red Devils scoreless in the bottom of the inning. The Cavaliers hit six doubles in the contest.

Joe Mapes was ACC’s starting pitcher in the game, going six innings. Bill Wigington, Layton Gray and Dickerson came on in relief.

Lewis, Fultz and Rasch each had two singles in the game. Wilburn and Johnston had a base hit apiece.

Allen’s pitchers continued to struggle on Sunday. The Cavaliers scored seven runs in the third inning of the first game on two hits, an ACC error and six walks. They would take a 9-8 decision.
