The Allen County Aces, traveling volleyball teams, started competing in tournaments last weekend. The Aces have six teams this year — one 13-year-olds, two 14-year-olds, and one each for 15-year-olds, 16-year-olds and 17-year-olds.
The Aces’ 14-1 team played in the Tom Willey Memorial Tournament Sunday at Lee’s Summit Mo. The Aces were 3-5 in games.
Allen County beat Capital Area VBC 25-20, 25-17 and split with N.E. Elite 25-20, 24-26. It lost to Southland Aces 25-14, 25-19 and to Southern Elite 25-22, 25-13.
The Aces 14-1 team has Emery Driskel and Kaysha Elmenhorst of LaHarpe, Kenyon Hastings of Chanute, Breanna Kline, Brittany Smith and Delaney Umholtz, all of Humboldt, and Torrie Lewis, Kyra Moore and Emma Piazza, all of Iola. It is coached by Kris and Lori Moore of Iola.
On Saturday, Aces 14-2 took second in the Eagle Challenge, a five-team tournament, at Avila University. It went 7-3.
Members of Aces 14-2 are Shelbi Emling, Maryn Lee, Elizabeth Thorp, all of Burlington, Crie Fischer of Williamsburg, Payton Meader of Waverly, Regan Norton of Lebo, Kylie Foster and Brette Moore of Ottawa. It is coached by Shelly (Leach) Thorp and Sherry (Leach) Fejfar of Burlington.
This Saturday, the Aces 15s play at West Franklin. On Sunday, the 13s play at Lee’s Summit Slam 1, 14-2 is at Wellsville, the 16s play at Butler Community College and the 17s are at Eudora.
