AA Indians sweep Wellsville

WELLSVILLE — Iola American Legion’s AA Indians had little trouble collecting wins seven and eight of the summer season Thursday.
The Indians rolled past host Wellsville 10-1 in six innings and 9-0 in five innings.
Ryan Latta hit a grand slam in the fifth inning of the opener to put Iola up 6-1. The Indians added four more in the sixth.
Ethan Ericson tossed a two-hitter for the win. He walked five and hit three batters but struck out 11.
Ryan Latta also had a single in the contest. Drew Walden hit a single and a double and Ericson had two base hits.
Jerrik Sigg doubled. Levi Ashmore, Corey Taylor and Jarred Latta each had a single.
Clint Heffern and Jarred Latta combined for a no-hitter for the Indians in the second game. Latta started and went one inning, issuing three walks and striking out one. Heffern pitched four shutout innings, walked five and struck out two.
The Indians took advantage of walks, hit batters and errors to build their lead. They led 3-0 after three innings then scored four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Ryan Latta doubled. Ashmore, Taylor, Mason Coons and Heffern each had a single.
The AA Indians are 8-1 going into their own tournament this weekend at Allen County Community College. It is a round-robin event.
The AA Indians play Linn County at 11 a.m. Saturday then take on the 4-0 Iola A Indians at 5 p.m.
On Sunday at ACCC, the AA Indians play Paola A at 1 p.m. and Chanute at 7 p.m.
