Iola American Legion Post 15’s AA Indians haven’t dropped a game since their season opener against Osawatomie. The Indians rolled past visiting Fort Scott Thursday at Allen County Community College.
The Indians won 6-2 and 10-2. That put them at 16-1 for the season. They play a doubleheader at Ottawa Saturday.
“We played pretty well (Thursday night),” said Mike Taylor, AA Indians’ head coach. “We’ll have a good test on Saturday.”
In the first game Thursday, Iola used five singles to score three runs in the second inning. A two-run base hit by Kris Collins put the Indians up for good after Fort Scott had scored a run in the first.
Iola added a run in the third and two more in the sixth for the 6-2 victory.
Ethan Ericson got the pitching win, going four innings and allowing one run on three hits and four walks. He struck out two. Levi Ashmore pitched three innings, giving up a run on two hits and had a strikeout.
Dalton Smith ripped two doubles and a single to lead Iola’s offense. Ashmore hit two singles.
Hitting a single each were Ryan Latta, Corey Taylor, Drew Walden, Clint Heffern, Collins, Jarred Latta and Mason Coons.
Smith limited Fort Scott to two hits in the second contest. He walked three and struck out one in the 10-2 win.
Fort Scott had a run in the first then tied it up with a run in the second. Iola had scored twice in the bottom of the first inning.
Iola broke the tie with a six-run fourth inning. The Indians plated two more runs in the fifth.
Walden, Collins and Ericson each had two singles. Smith doubled. Jerrik Sigg, Taylor and Devon Conner each had a base hit.
Iola goes to Chanute Tuesday then play its final regular season home game next Thursday against Paola.
