AA Indians roll past Spring Hill

Dominant pitching performances by Ethan Ericson, Jerrik Sigg and Ryan Latta propelled the Iola American Legion Post 15 AA Indians to a doubleheader sweep Thursday.
The Indians powered past visiting Spring Hill 9-1 in the opener with Ericson on the hill. Iola then dispatched Spring Hill in five innings, 8-0, as Sigg and Latta combined on the mound.
The victories push the Iola AA team’s record to 12-1. The AA Indians play in this weekend’s tournament at Osawatomie.
Iola is home again Tuesday hosting Linn County. First pitch is at 6 p.m. at the Allen County Community College baseball field.
While Ericson was limiting Spring Hill hitters to two hits in the first game, Iola was scoring two runs in each of the first four innings. Spring Hill scored a run in the fourth.
Iola added a run in the sixth for the 9-1 count. Ericson walked three batters and struck out nine.
Ryan Latta delivered a single and a triple for Iola. Levi Ashmore and Corey Taylor each connected for a single and a double.
Dalton Smith hit two singles. Mason Coons doubled and Clint Heffern singled.
In the second game, Sigg cruised through three innings on the mound. He allowed three hits but no runs, walked one batter and struck out three. Ryan Latta mopped up with two hitless, scoreless innings. He struck out three.
Iola scored two runs in the second and third innings. The Indians plated four runs in the fourth. Iola took advantage of six walks issued by Spring Hill and four Spring Hill errors.
Ryan Latta tripled. Hitting a single each were Smith, Drew Walden and Devon Conner.
