Iola falls to Girard
A week after coming up just short against Prairie View, Iola faced another one of the state’s best teams in Girard. Iola trailed 26-0 at the half and never came back, losing 42-6. Brett Willis caught a 78-yard touchdown to break the shutout.
Iola (2-5) travels to (3-4) Burlington this Friday.
Humboldt blanked by Wellsville
Humboldt lost 40-0 to Wellsville after trailing 20-0 at halftime. Humboldt held the ball for over 32 minutes, but only gained 11 first downs. Gavin Page was the only Cub with more than 50 yards. Page threw for 50 yards and ran for 59 more.
Humboldt (5-2) plays host to Osage City this week.
Yates Center wins shootout over Marmaton ValleyYates Center won 88-52 powered by running back Carter Burton’s 302-yard, five-touchdown game. Yates Center defensive tackle Jayston Rice made 23 tackles and had five tackles for loss. Linebacker Shane Weber had seven tackles for loss.
Marmaton Valley quarterback Garrett Henderson threw for 244 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran for 66 yards.
(6-1) Yates Center faces (6-1) West Elk this week while (4-3) Marmaton Valley faces (6-1) Sedan.
Crest dominates Southern Coffey CountyCrest defeated Southern Coffey County 52-6. The game ended at halftime. Crest running back Holden Barker ran for 175 yards. Barker has 1,669 yards this season. If he can run for 331 yards this week he will go over 2,000, a rare feat.
Crest (4-3) will travel to (0-5) Altoona-Midway this Friday while Southern Coffey County (1-4) ends its season at home versus (4-3) St. Paul.
