Iola Middle School hosted its annual home track meet renamed the Terry Lower Invitational last year on Tuesday. Out of the 20 teams in attendance, all four Iola teams placed inside the top 10.
The eighth-grade boys led the way with a fourth-place finish followed by eighth-place finishes for the seventh-grade boys and girls. The eighth-grade girls placed ninth.
Eighth-Grade Boys
Carter Hutton took fourth in the 400 race with a time of 59.02, missing out on a top-three finish by less than two seconds. Jesse Taylor took sixth in the 1600 with a time of 5:49.51 and Kaster Trabuc (11:44) and Jake Skahan (12:19) took second and third in the 3200.
Kyler Mittelmeier took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.32.
Holden Barker (354) and Justin McCullough (354) took third and fourth in the shot put and Joe Karr took seventh with a distance of 332.
Karr also took sixth in the discus with a distance of 92.
The 4×200 relay team consisting of Drake Mathew, Jarrett Herrmann, Eli Adams and Cody Wile with a time of 1:50.74.
The 4×400 relay team of Skahan, Trabuc, Jesse Taylor and Mathew placed sixth with a time of 4:29.
Eighth-Grade Girls
The eighth-grade girls 4×100 relay team consisting of Aysha Houk, Hallie McDermeit, Celina Caron and Abigail Hirt took sixth with a time of 59.52.
The 4×200 relay team of Hirt, McDermeit, Houk and Caiden Cloud finished fourth with a time of 2:10.08.
The 4×800 relay team of Hirt, Cloud, McDermeit and Jadyn Kaufman finished eighth with a time of 5:18.
Caron finished sixth in the long jump with a distance of 1210 and Dallyn McGraw took fourth in the high jump with a height of 44.
Seventh-Grade Girls
Piper Aronson took third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.49 and seventh in the 200 with a time of 31.90.
Keira Fawson (6:43.82) and Abigail Meiwes (7:00.34) finished third and sixth in the 1600 and Rio Lohman (20.91) and Emily Atwell (21.08) placed sixth and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles.
The 4×100 relay team of Heidi Folk, Aronson, Atwell and Rebekah Coltrane took seventh with a time of 1:04.74.
The 4×200 relay team of Atwell, Lohman, Coltrane and Aronson took seventh with a time of 2:16.90.
