MORAN — Offensive struggles hurt Marmaton Valley High’s girls to wrap up the regular season Tuesday.
The Wildcats were held to two third-quarter points, and despite a feisty fourth-quarter rally, fell short in a 37-28 loss to Hartford.
The defeat puts the Wildcats at 11-7 headed into the Class 1A-I Substate playoffs.
Marmaton Valley has the third seed and will host sixth-seeded Olpe at 7 p.m. Friday in the MVHS gymnasium.
The winner will advance to next week’s semifinal round against top-seeded St. Paul.
On Tuesday, Hartford led 10-8 after one quarter and 22-14 at the break. Marmaton Valley’s deficit swelled to 12, 28-16, after three.
Marmaton Valley’s Janae Granere erupted down the stretch, scoring 11 of her game-high 17 in the fourth quarter, but the Jaguars did just enough to keep things in hand.
Tayven Sutton added four points, Kendall Scharff scored three, and Payton Scharff and Aly Ard scored two each.
